Job Description:

We are looking for a compassionate and reliable Support Worker to assist our client, a non-verbal young adult, during her daily activities. This is a rewarding role where you will support the client in her personal care, at a Mencap day centre, and in a variety of fun and engaging activities in the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mencap Day Centre Supervision: Accompany the client to the day centre for a couple of hours a day, supporting her in arts and crafts, music, swimming (on occasion), and other activities.
  • Community Outings: Assist the client on walking trips, beach visits, mall outings, and park walks.
  • Home Activities: On rainy days or odd occasions, supervise the client during library visits or activities at home.
  • Meal Supervision: Helping the client during meal and snack times, including heating up simple meals, assisting with eating, and giving medication as required.
  • Personal Care Assistance: Support the client with toileting, including helping with wiping and washing hands.
  • Communication: As the client is non-verbal, you will assist her in directing you to her needs through gestures, expressions, or other methods of communication.

Requirements:

  • Experience: Prior experience in supporting individuals with learning disabilities or in a care role is desirable but not essential. Training will be provided.
  • Skills: Patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude. Ability to work independently and use initiative.
  • Personal Qualities: Kind, empathetic, reliable, and attentive to the client’s needs.

Driver’s License (Optional): Ability to drive and transport the client (if necessary) is a plus, though not required.
