We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated support worker to assist a non-verbal 8-year-old child in accessing the community and participating in various fun activities. This position requires patience, understanding, and a commitment to helping the child engage with their surroundings to the best of their abilities.
Job Description: The role involves providing support for 4 hours per week, hours per week and time can be flexible with a focus on facilitating the child's self-care, inclusion, and enjoyment in recreational activities.
Responsibilities:
- Companion and Assistance: Accompany the child during outings to the community, such as parks, playgrounds etc, always ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Communication Support: utilise alternative communication methods, such as visual aids, gestures, or communication devices, to facilitate interaction and understanding between the child and their environment.
- Engagement in Activities: Encourage the child to participate in various activities suited to their interests and abilities, fostering their social skills and personal development.
Requirements:
- Experience: Previous experience working with children with disabilities, particularly those who are non-verbal, is preferred.
- Patience and Empathy: Demonstrated patience, empathy, and understanding when working with individuals who have communication and developmental challenges.
- Flexibility: Ability to adapt to changing situations and effectively manage unexpected circumstances during outings and activities.
- Reliability: Punctuality and reliability in fulfilling scheduled support sessions, with a commitment to the child's well-being and engagement.
- Clearance: A satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be required for this role.
